Chapter Eight

Before you read, I apologize for the delay. Eh, most of you probably forgot about this by now, sorry, I was thinking of new ideas XD

Let's get on with it.

Chapter Eight
It. Was. Jak.

Jak the Hobo. I couldn't believe it. I thought he'd left MapleBirth for good. But....MapleGuide must have been destroyed.....I wondered where Jack was. He was one of our fighter specialists. Of course, the only ones were Xsin and Jack...so I supposed Jack was our only specialist...

Jak looked at me. He looked worried. "Long time no see....Matt," he said.

He gave a simple nod to Mikey and Hirari. At first I was speechless with shock. But after a few moments, I managed to say, "What are you doing here?"

As if I didn't know why. "Well....I'm sure you know. Jaws and SN came for us a few weeks ago. Most of us have scattered gone off..."

I had the impression he wasn't alone. "Who else?" I asked.

He looked down to the ground, as if ashamed, but not willing to apologize. "Look, Matt, to defeat them, we need to unite. We've had our differences...and you might not be co-leader of the city...but you do posses some authority, and I ask you this: Would you like a truce for the time being? We both have the similar rank at our respective cities."

I was stunned. After all the times he'd bitched at me, he expected me to trust him? I didn't know.....but Mikey intervened. "I'm a co-leader of the city, and yes, we accept the truce with MapleGuide."

I merely grunted. Jak still looked worried. "And about the other people....."

I looked up. I only recognized one: PØPnetic. The others were unfamiliar. I was unsure. But I choked out, "Okay."

Jak's face changed from worried to neutral. "Wait," I said.

Jak froze. "Where's Jack?" I asked.

He rolled his eyes. "I'm right here."

"No, I mean, your leader. You know, TheJrKiller? Juri?"

He bit his lip. "Well....."

I suddenly understood. Hirari bit her lip. Mikey looked down. "Well, if that's all...." Jak led the group off. I wondered if Martin was gone too.

But I decided to leave it at that. "C'mon, Mikey," I said in a low voice.

Mikey followed me, but he looked sad now. We stopped at Minh's place and asked him to make the Global Announcement.

Minh called for a meeting, and agreed we needed to team up. The war was beginning now, and we had to involve a lot of cities. Of course, some would side with Xsin. I wondered about Nani. Would he come and join me and Tom? Or Xsin and Jaws? I thought Jeremy would come to us....and Zayou too. We would call MapleMedia first thing tomorrow. "The cities are in danger!" I heard Minh yell to MapleBirth.

"We must fulfill our duties and protect the Maple World! Are you guys ready?"

"YES!!!" the crowd shouted.

I walked inside the place reserved for City Leaders. Jake, Gamma, Iz, and Miloth were already in there. I sat down at my designated spot, in the middle of Miloth and Iz, so that I was in front of Minh's seat. Soon we would have to contact the leaders or every city and ask them: Will you fight with us?

I will fight with you, FIGHT TILL DEATH!
